The redesigned 50 Cedi banknote was a personal project during my time as a design student at Radford University in Accra. Inspiration came from the layered, intricate repetition of Guilloché, birds species found locally and quirky color gradients I was itching to try.
Subtle tweaks to typography and layout have been added since initial conception as well as a (fictitious) one hundred Cedi banknote, inspired by the Queen Mothers of Ghana and the Great Blue Turaco.
In the near future, I plan to explore currency further with a fuller set of notes. Ultimately, these will form part of a larger “Rethink Ghana” project which will dissect and re-imagine objects of daily use and identity within Ghana.
